“For years I had a big thick piece of Huon Pine stored away that I didn't know what to do with. I recently decided to make a small chest of drawers from it. The surface is carved to create depth and texture and really expose its thickness.

“I imagine it as a block of gold or honeycomb sitting on a stand, with hidden drawers. It’s a dovetailed box and I’ve actually cut into those dovetails at the top, so you can see inside them.

“The surface finish on this piece is carved out by hand to create the three dimensional shapes that I kind of imagine look like waves. The handles are made from nickel silver, almost like jewellery. It’s a sculptural, precious piece that is displayed on its own Blackbean stand.”
